Linking Farmers to Fairtrade Markets in Papua New Guinea under the Technology as Development of Solution: Use of ICT to improve Livelihoods of the Poorest in Remote Rural Areas
Farmers and cooperatives in Papua New Guinea are challenged by isolation, poor telecommunication infrastructure and access to power, and are often unaware of the services available to businesses from telecommunication providers. Fairtrade ANZ has been supporting farmers in PNG since 2008 to access the Fairtrade market through Fairtrade certification. This project sought to capitalise on ICT as a catalyst for development in PNG by partnering with cooperatives as well as public and private service provider to increase access to information and market opportunities through ICT.
National implementation: Papua New Guinea
Completed from 08/11/2013 to 30/06/2016
