CWG-Internet: Online Open Consultation (October 2019 - January 2020)

The 13th Session of the ITU Council Working Group on International Internet-related Public Policy Issues (CWG-Internet) decided on 20 September 2019 to hold an open consultation (online and physical) on the following topic

International intern​et-related public policy issues on harnessing new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs for sustainable development​​


CWG-Internet invites all stakeholders to submit contributions on i​nternational​​ internet-related public policy issues on harnessing new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs for sustainable development, focusing on the following questions:

  1. How will new and emerging tele​comm​unications/ICTs impact both the internet and sustainable development, including the digital economy?

  2. What are the opportunities and challenges for the adoption and growth of the new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs and internet?

  3. How can governments and the other stakeholders harness the benefits of new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs?

  4. What are the best practices for promoting human skills, institutional capacity, innovation and investment for new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs?​​

Informa​tion on the Online Open Consultation

Online Open Consultations are launched by the CWG-Internet and are held throughout the period between two successive CWG-Internet meetings. This process gives an opportunity to all stakeholders from all nations to express their views with regard to the topic(s) under discussion.​ 

Note: Responses to the questions of this round of Open Consultations could be submitted through the online form, where you can also find more detailed guidelines on the submission process. However, kindly note that the deadline for submissions was 22 January 2020.​

Discussions during the Physical Open Consultation meeting will be based on the responses received during the Online Open Consultation process, which will be consolidated in a single document ("Compilation Document"), to be published on the ITU website shortly​.

During the physical meeting, respondents to the Online Open Co​nsultation will have the opportunity to present their submitted views and to have a fruitful discussion with the other participants, including Members of the CWG-Internet. For those not in the position to participate onsite, remote participation is also available upon request while completing the online registration form
