WTPF-21: Online Open Consultation (November - December 2019)

​Background

​Pursuant to Resolution 2 (Rev. Dubai, 2018), the 2019 session of ITU Council decided through Decision 611 that the sixth WTPF will be convened  in 2021 (WTPF-21) on the following theme:

 
Policies for mobilizing new and emerging telecommunications/ICTs for sustainable development 
The WTPF-21 would discuss how new and emerging digital technologies and trends are enablers of the global transition to the digital economy. Themes for consideration include AI, IoT, 5G, Big Data, OTTs etc. In this regard, the WTPF-21 will focus on opportunities, challe​nges and policies to foster sustainable development."

Preparatory Process:

In accordance with Resolution 2 (Rev. Dubai, 2018), discussions at WTPF-21 shall be based solely on a single report by the ITU Secretary-General, and contributions from participants based on that report, prepared in accordance with a procedure adopted by the Council and based on the proposals of Member States and Sector Members, and on the views of Associates, Academia and stakeholders.

The procedure for preparation of the report by the Secretary-General is set out in Decision 611, and  requires the Secretary-General to convene a balanced, informal group of experts to assist in the process of preparation of the report (IEG-WTPF-21). The IEG-WTPF-21 was convened in September 2019 and had its first meeting on 23-24 September 2019 where the first draft outline of the report was discussed.

Based on these discussions, the second draft of the report was prepared and, pursuant to the procedure set out in Decision 611, was available online from November 1 2019 till 23 December 2019 for online open public consultations.

Useful Information and Instructions:

The online open public consultation on the second draft of the report by the Secretary-General for WTPF-21 was launched on November 1, 2019 and was available for inputs till 23 December, 2019. In addition to members of the IEG-WTPF-21, all stakeholders wh​o were interested in contributinh to this consultation process could do so by providing their inputs on the second draft of the report by the Secretary-General within the aforementioned timeline.

Inputs on the second draft of the report were submitted through ​the online form, where more detailed guidelines on the submission process are also available. However, kindly note that the deadline for submissions was 23rd Dece​mber 2019. ​
