13-24 July 2009, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Training Course on Measuring Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) Access and
Use in Households and Businesses was
organized jointly by the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United
Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
and the United Nations Economic Commission for
Africa (UNECA). The training course took place
under the framework of the Task Group on
Capacity Building of the
Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development.
The objective of this training was to strengthen
the capacity of National Statistics Offices
of the African English-speaking countries to
produce national statistics on access to and use
of ICT in households and by individuals, as well
as on ICT use in businesses and the ICT sector.
Official ICT statistics and indicators allow
Governments to elaborate and evaluate their ICT
policies for development and to take measures to
bridge the digital divide within and between
countries.
